What is Trans-Tasman Portability?

Trans-Tasman Portability is the scheme that lets KiwiSaver members permanently moving to Australia transfer their balance into an Australian complying super fund.

Live and operating since 1 July 2013. Funds transferred keep their tax-paid status and can later be transferred back if you return to New Zealand. Not all Australian super funds accept inbound KiwiSaver transfers; check with the receiving fund first. The Government contribution component is included in the transfer (unlike other emigration cases).

Example

You move permanently to Sydney and take a job there. After settling in, you ask your KiwiSaver provider to transfer the balance to an AustralianSuper account.
