About “—” in return figures: it means no figure is held, not a return of zero. Of the 2 funds listed, 1 has a 1-year return. Figures are drawn from fund disclosures on the FMA Disclose register, chiefly quarterly fund updates. Each fund shows the most recent figure held; the latest quarter broadly covered across all funds is March 2026. A fund too new to report a period has no figure for it; other gaps are figures not yet captured from the updates ingested so far.

The transfer process
- Pick the receiving fund at Booster. The receiving provider needs the specific fund choice, not just the scheme. View Booster's line-up at /providers/booster.
- Apply to Booster. Most providers offer online application. They will ask for your IRD number and the name of your current scheme (BNZ).
- Booster initiates the transfer. The receiving scheme contacts BNZ and arranges the inter-scheme transfer. Under the KiwiSaver Act this is free of charge to you.
- Your balance moves over 2-3 weeks. BNZ sells your existing units, transfers the cash, and Booster buys units in your chosen fund. You are typically in cash for a few business days during this window.
- Your employer is notified automatically. IRD receives the new scheme details and routes future contributions accordingly. No paperwork required on your side.
Frequently asked questions
How do BNZ's fees compare to Booster's?
BNZ's Growth fund charges 0.45% versus Booster's at 1.25%. Sourced from each scheme's most recent FMA-filed Quarterly Fund Update. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns.
Is it free to switch from BNZ to Booster?
Switching KiwiSaver schemes is free under the KiwiSaver Act — no exit penalties or transfer fees apply. The new provider initiates the transfer; the typical timeframe is 2-3 weeks.
Will switching affect my employer KiwiSaver contributions?
No. Your employer continues making contributions at the same rate; only the receiving scheme changes. Your IRD records are updated when the new provider notifies them of the transfer.
Can I lose money during the switch?
Funds are typically sold at your current scheme and re-bought at the new scheme — meaning you are temporarily in cash during the transfer window (a few business days). Market movements during that window can affect your balance. Both positive and negative outcomes are possible.
